He Doesn't Want You There

Me, my mom, granny, and papa are leaving my house and getting into our cars. I have a twelve-pack of Sprite and a grocery bag full of party supplies. We’re about to head to Granny and Papa’s house for Papa’s birthday. I get in the back seat of my car, which is parked on the street, while my grandparents get into their truck which is parked in the street. My mom walks from their truck over to me. I haven’t closed the door yet. She leans on the car and door, and says to me, “He doesn’t want you there.”
I’m stunned and hurt, because I’ve done the planning and helped prepare things, and now I’m not wanted. I stutter out, “Ohh… uh, yeah…” and then I get pissed and finish with, “well fine,” and I slam the door. She goes back to their truck and gets in. I feel bad for leaving our conversation there, knowing it’s not my mom’s fault, so I open the door and shout a farewell, “I love you” before they drive off. She returns the gesture.
Still upset, I decide to take a drive. I end up at the outdoor pool. Weston convinces me to go down the slide, despite my protests that I’m to old. It turns out to be a lot of fun. Instead of waiting for everyone to go down one at a time, we go into the tunnel one after another. I twist so I’m sliding down the roof of the tunnel while the two people after me stay on the bottom.
Then I’m with Mary and Travis in high school. We are in high school, watching a video. At the end of the video is a tutorial on how to surf around hallways with plastic bags. I am the only one interested in it. The guys and girls hold onto the handle of the blue plastic bags and ride them near the ceiling like sails. It’s awesome and I want to try it.
Now I am at my dad’s house. It feels like I’m inside a cargo container that doesn’t have a ceiling. There’s a man there that is like my guardian. He’s high as a kite with a long beard and tatty brown clothes. I tell him that I must find the stars in order to continue in my journey. However, since it’s day time, it is impossible to see the stars. He covers me with a blanket, and tells me to close my eyes. When I do, all is black. He tells me to look for the stars. I shove the blanket off of me with agitation. “Not imaginary stars, I need real stars!” I stress to him without the stars, I will never get my metal feather. [End]
