the key is to have no fear

I do not really recognize the house but it appears that we are moving. Perhaps this is some version of the bungalow on 4th street although it is located on catalpa as usual. Sibyl's family is helping while I sit at the computer attempting to figure out whose iphone I have found. I recall the name Katniss appearing somewhere in it. As I am fiddling, deciding if someone left it here recently or long ago I am asked to help with the move. I am instructed to pick up two chickens. I grab one and feed it some bubblegum out of my mouth in an attempt to keep it from pecking at me. Then I grab the other. I walk outside through the garage. Their bodies are fragile in my grasp. I can feel their ribs and soft bellies. However, they are not complacent. Their talons begin to pinch me before I make it past the neighbor's. We are only moving two doors down past them but I suffer their digging claws for the second half of the walk.

As soon as I get into the house there is a laundry room on the left of the hallway with a baby gate set up. The chickens are milling around in there with many tiny babies. I throw my two chickens into the fray and loudly complain to Sibyl's family, who are seated in the kitchen at the end of the hall. The feet of the chickens have detached from their bodies and they hang from the talons embedded in my skin. I whine and moan as I pull them out and throw them aside. I stare down the chickens. They try to peck me from the other side of the gate and I mock them. They appear disfigured now, their heads bizarre and covered in exposed tendons.

In the kitchen I poke through the food that has been prepared. None of it strikes my fancy. I tell them I intend to go back to the other house because none of the food here is vegan. As I begin to walk out I realize how massive this new house is. I hear one of them tell me that it used to be a church as I round the corner and am met with a staircase leading upward. I pass a maze of doors and corridors only to find another set of stairs. This happens two more times before I open a door to a massive cathedralesque room. The carpets on the floors are ornate, the vaulted ceiling dark, and the organ along one wall truly gigantic. Notes fade away right as I walk in and I thank my grandma, who tells me that I just missed her performance.

I must have found a portal because we are unmistakably outside. It is marshy, everything seems to cling and lean on everything else. The grass is dewy wherever the water isn't collecting. Soon I'm sliding across the ground like a stream would, the roots and knobs of trees massaging my belly as I glide over them. My party and I arrive at a tree that makes a sort of slide straight down into the canopy in the valley below us. I wrap my arms around its trunk and prepare to slide down it. Katelyn stops me, tells me that I will never make it and that I will fall to my death, but I reassure her that the key is to have no fear.

I slide, it is marvelous and freeing and near the bottom she seems to agree. I look into the water at my feet and point out a bright orange parrotfish. She interjects that it is only the head of the fish, and I peer closer expecting to see a disgusting twist of spine. The fish quickly swims away, completely intact, which pleases me. There are streaks of turquoise and yellow that flash along its scales as it dips under the mossy water and escapes.
