Straddling the hedge

It was one of those where you feel like you've had the dream before. But that wasn't the strange thing.
It was VERY complex.
There was a league or leader(s) or referee(s) of some kind which kept things in order or to dictate those who... hedge walk or troll.
I remember there being a book or movie you read or watched in order to understand the system/rules of this dream and there was certain levels of ability or privileges after obtaining experience, like i said not the first time ive had this dream...so i had at least some previous knowledge/experience.

It was almost as if watching myself, being amazed at the things my body was doing and my mind was conceiving. It was like i was influencing drastic change subconsciously, while consciously i was evaluating my dreamselfs actions/motives with minimal influence over the environment. It was nice because normally my conscious awareness has drastic effect over my dream surroundings where it can become disrupting to the story of the dream.

i felt like i had a job or goal to do.

The sensation i was feeling is not one i am overly familiar with, but oddly would describe it as if i am playing/working on a bridge with no intentions to cross, like flying, swimming, climbing a tree, or riding a roller coaster.

I am a philanthropist of some kind to passers by, i gift or trade pertaining information. I received some very insightful messages, while another time i received information which i disagreed with or did not favor. I was summoned or addressed by an "elder" he seemed to suggest or reference "the book" or "the movie"

Wish i could remember this one in more detail... i recall there being intricate passages and references.
