Set in the future, I find myself and my family as part of some sort of nomadic community living without much, and sharing what we had with others. We are camping/living in a forested area. A new family happens along and wants to join our larger group, and seems to need our help badly. After welcoming the new family, bad things begin to happen. At first, things begin to disappear, food and small valuables. Some wonder if it is the new people, but it is diffucult to tell. Eventually, we are all tied up while the one family robs the entire community of anything valuable and leaves. Things they had stolen earlier, but decided they no longer wanted were left behind. There was a lingering sense that they justified what they did because they were desperate and in need, and maybe even meant to repay those they had wronged at some later point in time. The community was discussing what action if any was to be taken, when ... the dang cat jumps on the bed and wakes me up.
