First I was moving to a new house. It was a grand home, with plenty of studio space, which I was setting up. There was some confusion because it was a family home, but R and I needed our own space. It wound up being a non-issue, after talking with some local boys who assured me. I went back to setting up my studio and sewing machines.
Then I got pulled over for crossing a dotted white line, which isn't illegal. The line wasn't a road marking, but part of an art mural on the road. The officer lady took the wheels off my skateboard.
I had to explain to the officer each piece in the mural, to give her context about the white line part. I asked an onlooker if she was crazy. He said she wasn't evolved yet to understand the difference between art and road markings.
Bob Dylan and co. walked in, and asked who I was. I said I was going to teach college art someday. Dylan shook his head and said, "what about all those guerilla artists?" and I said they were great but it wasn't really my thing. I amended my statement about teaching to say, "If I get to, I'd just want to make art all day."
I continued explaining each part of the mural. It was divided into rectangles, like a quilt. Each had a different artist, different colors, and was either modern, 80s inspired, or child-like. Several had sprays of color over the base color. My favorite was a deep blue with fluorescent blue sprays onto of it, about a fluorescent blue crescent.
Finally I got to the white lines. I explained white means purity, innocence, and starting over. She finally got it.
