Aboriginal Shaman Guides Me

09/17/11 - I'm in the lower level of a house and I'm saying goodbye to a bunch of friends. I don't really know them in waking life, but in the dream we've been very close. I'm going around the room and hugging each of them, and I come to a large, motherly woman with dark hair on the couch. She stays seated and I lean over and hug her, closing my eyes. I feel so close to her, so at ease in her presence, and behind my eyelids begins to form this beautiful, radiant, white lotus, expanding and sparkling. In her arms I feel this eternal love, and I think to myself that she must be a Bodhisattva.

I stand up again, filled with her love and with this intense energy that I don't know what to do with. I start to see sparks of light and energy dancing around me, and I begin to breathe in a strange way - very short, fast and forceful exhales. I sit down on a cushion and continue breathing. Suddenly a picture appears in front of me of a simply drawn man. It looks like Aboriginal artwork. Then an actual Aboriginal looking man, like a shaman, appears next to me.

The shaman explains to me that I'm going to go on a journey. He says I will stare into the picture and then I will leave my body. The next place I go I will need to look into the light. Then I will fly around, and when I return I will come down the stairs and back into the room where we are. He says I will tumble down the stairs. Then he places this strange wooden structure at the bottom of the stairs. It's a tall, tribal-looking post with a few wooden crossbars and one yellowish wooden triangle sticking out of it at the top. I think it might be a guide post to help in my return.

I begin staring into the picture of the man, continuing with my fast forceful breathing. Suddenly everything in the room except for the picture fades away, and then the picture fades, too, and I am transported away.

The next place I find myself is a small room with a large window, very high up in what feels like a high rise apartment building. I'm there with a guy my age and we're just talking. I wish I could remember what we talked about, but it's all vague now. We're watching the sun go down over the city. Just before it slips over the horizon, I look right at the sun and it's a brilliant red, and so bright. I become entranced, muttering under my breath about how bright the light is. Suddenly everything else in my view except for the light fades away, and I feel like I'm going to be pulled into it. Just then, the guy I'm with pushes me out of the window. I begin falling but everything is dark now. I know this is the time I'm supposed to begin flying, but I feel myself waking up reluctantly. Did I fail the journey? Should I have known how to stay with it and fly? What would have happened if I had made it back to the shaman? Or maybe, waking up is the part where I'm supposed to begin flying.
