09/12/11 - In this dream I am actually a young boy, like a prince or someone very important. My mother is extremely controlling and has sent her men out to look for me and bring me back home. I'm so tired of being controlled like a puppet and I decide to run away from the men. I'm quick, clever, and very spry, and I am able to outrun them.
I'm inside of a barn-like structure when I see one of the men - I climb up the wall and into the rafters. He tries to reach me, but I'm out of his reach. I climb across the rafters to a window, then climb onto an adjoining roof. There are several men now and they're trying to find me. I swing down the opposite side of the roof and jump to the ground, then I start running as fast as I can. I run through the trees, across a small bridge over a dry creek bed.
There are trails leading through tall grass on the other side, and I run along, ducking low so they can't see me above the grass. I realize that my sister and Sam (the wolf dog) are coming up behind me. She has him on my scent. I dive into the grass, knowing that the newly risen sun will hit Sam's nostrils and confuse his sense of smell. As they get closer I see the sunlight his face, and then they go right past me. It worked!
I get back up and continue running. The dry creek bed is now like a cement canal, kind of like a skate park, and kids are running around playing. I continue running on, and I end up at a big house. This is where mother is. Suddenly I'm not the little boy anymore. I'm just me again, and I approach the house slowly. I see the mother with her head in her hands, crying, through the big glass windows. I go inside and comfort her, telling her that her son will come home. In my mind I plan to go get him. He doesn't know what I've just learned - that his mother is in pain, and her need to control him comes from her deep love for him. I want him to come home, too. I mean to find him for her.

the Terrible Mother is the counterpart of the Pietà, representing not only death
but also the cruel side of nature—its indifference towards human suffering (31).
Jung also notes that the mother is symbolic of the collective unconscious, of the
left and nocturnal side of existence—the source of the Water of Life. It is the
mother, he argues, who is the first to bear that image of the anima which the man
must project upon Woman passing from the mother to the sister and finally to the
beloved (32). A predominantly maternal social pattern—a matriarchal society—
is characterized, according to Bachofen, by special emphasis upon blood relationships, telluric allegiances, and the passive acceptance of natural phenomena.
Patriarchies are distinguished by a respect for man-made laws, the favouring of
works of art and craft, and obedience to the hierarchy (23). Even now that
matriarchal societies, sociologically speaking, no longer exist in the West, psychologically man is nevertheless passing through a phase when he is in all essentials dominated by the feminine principle. To come triumphantly through this
stage and to reinstate the masculine principle as the guiding-rule of life—bringing
to the fore the characteristically patriarchal qualities noted above—would signify
an achievement of the kind that was once symbolized by the transformation of
the ‘lunar work’ into the solar, or by the transmutation of mercury into sulphur.
