close call.

It's the afternoon of the day out of time. LJ and I are stationed next to each other in the kitchen of the restaurant, chopping vegetables and chatting. I mention the fact that July 25th has always been one of the trippiest and most intense days of the year for me. We are talking about how many strange things have come about on the day out of time, and I ask him what his Mayan glyph is. He tells me and points to a tattoo on the inside of his left forearm. I'm like, "Wo! That's awesome!" as I point to my glyph, which is tattooed in the exact same spot. Synchronistic! Just as I'm about to tell him how trippy I think our matching tattoos are, there is a huge bang from behind us. It's an explosion in the hood vent of the stove.

We both turn to look, and see that the grill is suddenly on fire and that there is grease dripping from the vent. Black smoke is beginning to fill the room. LJ hops over to the stove to attend the fire. I grab the phone, quickly shut the door to the dining room and run out to tell the people in the restaurant that there's a fire. As I walk back into the kitchen, the entire room is filled with smoke, and the sprinklers have turned on, spraying a chemical solution all over everything. The fire is out, but we're all pretty shocked.

As we step outside to take a breather, I mention to LJ that maybe we should keep the Mayan talk for outside of the workplace.

We've had the past four days off though, which is kind of nice.

I must say, I saw my life flash before my eyes. I thought for a few moments that the whole building was going up. There was part of me that was waiting for a bigger explosion.

It's not the first time I've had a close call like this either. A few years ago, a fireball exploded next to my head due to a faulty wire in the water bed I was sleeping in. My cat woke me up in the middle of night acting really strangely, and as I sat up to calm him down, the fireball popped up right where my head had been. Had my kitty not woken me (literally 2 seconds before it happened) I would have had one super scarred face.

The last time my film producer friend and I met to discuss ideas for future videos, I jokingly mentioned that it would be cool to blow some shit up. Maybe not. Maybe there's enough of that going on in real life.
