I'm staying for a week or two in a beautiful group home. The house has been built by the family and is very unique and earthy. The husband and wife have separate bathrooms that very accurately reflect their personalities. I take a shower in the wife's charming and elegant bathroom. It is warmly sun-lit and full of climbing plants. Her jewlery box looks like a treasure chest, and I feel like a little girl as I marvel at all the different stones and jewels. I can smell her perfume. She is a true queen! The water runs over my body and I feel clean inside and out. I wrap myself in a towel and wander across the hall into the husband's bathroom. It is teal sea-green colored and has no decorations, but the structure is stunning...lovely fung shui with lots of naturally curving lines and well-crafted touches. I found this to be enchanting in a different way, and pondered that the male energy here was of a Yin quality, and the female energy of the wife's bathroom decor was more Yang. There was nothing on the husband's counter, though, and no soap in the shower etc... it looked like no one lived there. I sensed that there was trouble between them, and wondered about the energy efficiency of having separate master bathrooms.
I transform into my teenage self and walk into my hometown to a skate and snowboard shop with a pocket full of beads. I purchase some second-hand shoes that are priced at $3 (Arcanum 3= The Empress) but instead pay $8 for them (Arcanum 8=Justice/ ordeals). Somehow I felt like I was cheating unless I were to pay $9 for them (Arcanum 9= The Hermit). There was an area at the back of the shop where they invited folks to do arts and crafts at a large, spacious table. The guy at the counter is very attractive, like a Polynesian version of DJ Moldover. I go into the back and get started. I feel others at the table working but was much too profoundly focused on my own project to notice who.
Mystics have always traditionally considered the feminine aspect of
the universe as a chest, a house or a wall, as well as an enclosed garden. Another
symbolic association is that which equates the house (and the above, related
forms) with the repository of all wisdom, that is, tradition itself (4). In architectural symbolism, on the other hand, the house carries not only an overall symbolism but also particular associations attached to each of its component parts.
Nevertheless, the house as a home arouses strong, spontaneous associations with
the human body and human thought (or life, in other words), as has been confirmed empirically by psychoanalysts. Ania Teillard explains this by pointing
out that, in dreams, we employ the image of the house as a representation of the
different layers of the psyche. The outside of the house signifies the outward
appearance of Man: his personality or his mask. The various floors are related to
the vertical and spatial symbols. The roof and upper floor correspond to the head
and the mind, as well as to the conscious exercise of self-control. Similarly, the
basement corresponds to the unconscious and the instincts (just as sewers do, in
symbols pertaining to the city). The kitchen, since this is where foodstuff is
transformed, sometimes signifies the place or the moment of psychic transmutation in the alchemical sense. The intercommunicating rooms speak for themselves. The stairs are the link between the various planes of the psyche, but their
particular significance depends upon whether they are seen as ascending or descending. Finally, there is, as we have said, the association of the house with the
human body, especially regarding its openings, as was well understood by
Artemidorus Daldianus (56).
