I was a traveling journalist, doing a documentary piece called "Life in the Windiest City". The city was like a futuristic New York. I went to the top of the tallest apartment building, and elevator doors entered directly into the home of the tenants I was intending to interview. The apartment was white, and I was facing south as I walked in. The south wall's window was wide open, and the wind was racing through the apartment so loudly, I could hardly bear the noise. There was a man with wild hair hunched over a table in the center of the north portion of the main room, scribbling nonsense furiously onto a piece of paper. He was digging the pen in so hard the paper was almost ripping. He looked like Charles Manson and his energy was absolutely frantic. In the west portion of the room, six people stood--a mix of men and women. I yelled over the noisy wind, "Can I close the window, for Christ's sake?!!! We won't be able to communicate like this!!" The people all looked at one another and shook their heads "He won't let us!!" referring to the Charles Manson character. I was astounded that there was six of them and only one of him and that they felt obligated to do his bidding. I made my way towards the window, and could hardly move in that direction due to the sheer force of the wind. I pushed and pushed my way there, just inches at a time, and was close enough to reach for the window. Noticed that the window frame was painted in yellows and blues. Suddenly, the window bent outward towards my hands as if it was asking to be closed. The window met my hands and I pulled it shut. There was a profound silence. I turned around and the Manson guy was frozen solid, giving me the most piercing blood-curdling glare. The other six people were stunned and speechless, looking at me then at him, and wondering what would happen next.

Since it consists of an aperture, the window expresses the ideas of
penetration, of possibility and of distance, and because it is square in shape, its
implications are rational and terrestrial. It is also symbolic of consciousness (32),
especially when it is located at the top of a tower, by analogy with the head of the
human figure. Divided windows carry a secondary significance, which may at
times even be the predominant sense, deriving from the number of openings or lights and from the inter-relationships between the relevant number-symbolism
and the general symbolism of the window (Plate XXXI).
To see windows in your dreams, is an augury of fateful culmination to bright hopes. You will see your fairest wish go down in despair. Fruitless endeavors will be your portion.

A window is a rich dream symbol. Its accurate interpretation can lead to awareness and a better understanding of a personal outlook on life. If you are looking through the window, pay close attention to what you are looking at. Is it a beautiful landscape or a scene dealing with an experience or a situation from your past? Looking through a window and seeing a beautiful landscape may represent your desire for greater satisfaction and more peace in your life. If you are seeing something familiar, you may be able to perceive the situation in a new way and gain some insight. Some say that a window may represent a time frame. A closed window suggests an inability to effectively communicate, and an opened widow may represent desire for new adventure in life. Windows in our houses allow us to see the world on the outside, the windows in our dreams may encourage us to better see the world within ourselves, as well as the world outside.
Up to a certain point it corresponds to landscape-symbolism in general,
of which it forms one representational aspect, embracing the important symbols
of level and space, that is, height and situation. With the dawning of history there
arose, according to René Guénon, a true, ‘sacred geography’ and the position,
shape, doors and gates, and general disposition of a city with its temples and
acropolis were never arbitrary or fortuitous, or merely utilitarian. In fact, cities
were planned in strict accord with the dictates of a particular doctrine; hence the
city became a symbol of that doctrine and of the society which upheld it (28).
The city walls had magic powers since they were the outward signs of dogma,
which explains and justifies Romulus’s fratricide. Ornamental reliefs on capitals,
lintels, and tympana of the Middle Ages often depict the outlines of a walled city,
although in a way which is more emblematic than symbolic. These ornaments are
a kind of prefiguration of the heavenly Jerusalem. An angel armed with a sword is
sometimes to be seen at the city gate (46). Jung sees the city as a mother-symbol
and as a symbol of the feminine principle in general: that is, he interprets the City
as a woman who shelters her inhabitants as if they were her children; that is why
the two mother-gods Rhea and Cybele—as well as other allegorical figures derived from them—wear a crown after the pattern of a wall. The Old Testament
speaks of cities as women (31).
To see a city in your dream, signifies your social environment and sense of community. If you dream of a big city, then it suggests that you need to develop closer ties and relationships. You are feeling alienated and alone. To dream that you are in a deserted city, indicates that you feel rejected by those around you.
To dream of a city in ruins, denotes that you are neglecting your social relationships and allowing them to deteriorate.
To dream of an underground or underwater city, represents your unconscious and how through deeper understanding of yourself, you find commonality and shared experiences with others.
To dream that you are in a strange city, denotes you will have sorrowful occasion to change your abode or mode of living.
Seeing a city in your dream means a sense of community and your social environment. Dreaming that you are in a deserted city or that you feel alienated from the activity of the city, then it suggests that you feel rejected by those around you. Seeing a city in ruins means that you are neglecting your social relationships and allowing them to deteriorate.
The wind is air in its active and violent aspects, and is held to be the
primary Element by virtue of its connexion with the creative breath or exhalation.
Jung recalls that in Arabic (and paralleled by the Hebrew) the word ruh signifies
both ‘breath’ and ‘spirit’ (31). At the height of its activity, the wind gives rise to
the hurricane (a synthesis and ‘conjunction’ of the four Elements), which is
credited with the power of fecundation and regeneration. It was taken up in this
sense by the alchemists, as can be seen for example in Jamsthaler’s Viatorium
Spagyricum (Frankfort, 1625) (31). The winds were numbered and brought into
correspondence with the cardinal points and the signs of the Zodiac, so as to bring
out their cosmic significance. In Egypt and Greece the wind was reckoned to
possess certain evil powers; but for the Greeks, this menacing implication, which
they associated with Typhon, was reversed from that moment when the fleet of
Xerxes was destroyed by a tempest (41).
To dream of the wind blowing softly and sadly upon you, signifies that great fortune will come to you through bereavement.
If you hear the wind soughing, denotes that you will wander in estrangement from one whose life is empty without you.
To walk briskly against a brisk wind, foretells that you will courageously resist temptation and pursue fortune with a determination not easily put aside. For the wind to blow you along against your wishes, portends failure in business undertakings and disappointments in love. If the wind blows you in the direction you wish to go you will find unexpected and helpful allies, or that you have natural advantages over a rival or competitor.

The wind in your dream could be symbolic of your own spirit or the life force. The wind may represent changes in your life. The amount of force behind the wind could indicate the amount of change. A very gusty wind could represent stress and turmoil but also the energy that you need or have to make changes. The sound of the wind and the movement of objects around you are probably what alert you to the wind in the dream, rather than a sensation of wind on your skin. The sound of the wind is considered by some to be special because it is a sound of nature and has spiritual significance.
To dream about an apartment, symbolizes a financial or situational state. To dream of a large, lavish apartment, indicates an increase to your financial situation or an improvement to your family life. To dream of a shabby and dark apartment, indicates misfortune and possible loss.
When you dream of an apartment, try to remember its caracteristics: the bigger and wealthier it is, the more financially and emotionally successful you will get. The smaller and darker it is, the more financially and emotionally deprived you will be.
A symbol of individuality—of private thoughts. The windows symbolize the possibility of understanding and of passing through to the external and
the beyond, and are also an illustration of any idea of communication. Hence, a
closed room lacking windows may be symbolic of virginity, according to Frazer,
and also of other kinds of non-communication. Many rites involving the
enclosureimage are performed to mark the reaching of puberty, all over the world.
The legend about Danae, shut up by her father in a bronze tower, pertains to this
particular symbolism. There is a Siberian legend concerning a ‘dark house of iron’
which is also relevant to it (21). We might also mention the ‘vase with a lid’, one
of the eight emblems of good luck in Chinese Buddhism, and a symbol of wholeness, of the idea with no ‘exit’, or, in other words, of supreme intelligence triumphant over birth and death (signified respectively by the doors and windows of
the room) (5). This explains why the hermetically sealed room may possibly be
a variant form of the ‘vase with a lid’.

Dreams about various rooms often relate to hidden areas of the conscious mind and different aspects of your personality. If the room is welcoming or comfortable, then it signifies opulence and satisfaction in life. If you see a dark or confined room, then it denotes that you feel trapped or repressed in a situation.

Consider what you find in the discovered room as it may indicate repressed memories, fears, or rejected emotions. Alternatively, such rooms are symbolic of neglected skills or rejected potential.
To dream that you are in an empty white room, indicates a fresh start. It is like a blank canvas where you want to start life anew. Alternatively, the dream means that you are trying to isolate yourself. You do not want any outside influences.
