The Preservation Station

Eye was walking with my mother through a nearly fully restored Bucyrus Train Station building from the late 1800s to early 1900s. She and eye were going through some old signs eye had come across at another place and had thought may be of use to them for the restoration of the station. We were in an old Victorian nook in the front of the place sifting through the sign work. Eye saw several 1910 - 1913 era signs, license plates and posters some of which eye figured were probably worth a good amount of money. Eye looked up and saw that hanging above me was a early 1900s superbowl poster that was approximately 6x8 Feet in size. Thinking it was sure to be a rarity eye thought about its monetary value and examined its condition. It was clearly part of the train stations decor and not part of what eye had brought and had been stuck to the wall for over a century so eye continued examining the stuff eye was donating for last minute picks.

My mom started walking around the place checking out the scenery as eye walked with her showing her the intricate glass and iron work on the walls and ceilings. Eye was astonished at the amount of restoration that had been done and how much of the place eye had forgotten existed. There was a huge stage area with restored wood flooring and though some of it was still a bit shaky, progress was clearly being made by the volunteers who worked there. As we wandered a door opened which startled me as eye was expecting nobody would be there. A man entered with some 2x4s and proceeded to carry them into the place not acknowledging us. Eye assumed he thought of us as volunteers and a part of the preservation society, which eye also assumed that he was. Soon there were more men doing work throughout the place silently. Eye continued to marvel at the place until we decided to go back to our signs and continue examining them. We were having trouble finding the nook we were in as there were several along that wall of the place and then eye saw Dave Pirnstill ahead. He said 'What is it Nate?'

Eye approached him and told him that we had come across some old signs and posters from the early 1900s and were curious if he could use them to as part of the preservation project. He said that sounded good and started walking. Eye noticed how long and wiry his hair had gotten since eye had seen him last and was glad to see him working still and active with community preservation. Eye thought immediately about asking him how to sign up to donate time during the week to help with the train station. We started walking with him and he turned back and said 'You said you brought booze?' Eye said, 'No eye said eye brought signs.' He laughed and smiled and said 'I thought you said you brought booze!' We continued walking and checking out the place and eye awoke here next to the open window. The weather is warm today and it is raining, the sounds are lovely.
