I found myself in the early morning sun walking down to the beach. I was not familiar with this dreamscape. There was a pond with a mini bridge that one had to cross, then a sand dune type of 'wall' to hike over prior to reaching the beach (which was my destination). As I walk over the bridge, I noticed the pond was flooded by sea salt. Then my attention turns to the top of the sand dune where I witness a huge wave bellow over the wall and proceed to overflow into the pond. My knees were now fully submerged in the water. This was so odd (although I kept calm throughout the experience) because I knew that the tide was 'supposed' to be low in the morning. All of a sudden I was carried away by the waves. It engulfed EVERYTHING. Then I realize that I was outside of this gigantic crater for where I apparently lived. I suppose I was venturing out to view the beach. The waves were so gigantic that they started to reach the top of the crater and spill over. As the waves washed up, I was shot FAR UP into the air, only to free fall back into the next oncoming wave. Luckily I was able to keep up with the waves and not let them pull me under.
Then I woke up.
I am not sure what happened to the crater oasis place that I lived. I was having fun with the waves, but I was certainly confused as to why they were present.
There is a Chinese tradition that the waves are the abode of dragons,
and that they are also symbolic of purity (5). The apparent contradiction here
arises from the fact that the ocean swell offers two different aspects: because of
their rhythmic undulations they are reminiscent of dragons, and by virtue of their
white foam they suggest purity. There is thus no question of dual tendencies
here—only juxtaposition.
