The Whale, my Friend...

The dream was vast and filled with rich images, but being that I'd woken up several times and fallen back asleep to dream more, I'm amazed even this stuck with me. It's one of my recurring themes but I haven't had one of these dreams in quite a while.
I was near the Ocean. Waay off in the distance, I could see an inlet - similar to Cook's inlet, up in Alaska - with snow-capped peaks rising almost straight up from the placid water below. I had company and I was trying to get them to shut up because I was concentrating. As far as my eye could see, there was movement in the water. Suddenly I saw a prominent black dorsal fin and knew it was as I hoped.
Whales! I rushed down to the water's edge. There were ley-lines on the top of the water and I situated myself in a line to where the animals were. There were more of them now, dancing in the waves. I didn't want to get wet, but in order to get a good echo, I needed to practically get in the water. I put my hand in and began clicking my nails together. I could hear the loud sound they made, as if I could hear under water. I remarked that I was glad my nails weren't any shorter or this may prove difficult.
In little time at all, the pod began moving closer. I called my friends down to watch. Whales were jumping and making ruckus very close to us now. With the whales on their way, I moved up onto a dock so I was jettied out into the water. Without hesitation, an adolescent whale came right up to the dock. It was an Orca and its massive black head smiled up at me as it rose from the dark water to greet me.
It enjoyed being pet on the face as much as I enjoyed petting it. Like the ever smiling dolphin, this animal grinned up at me and gave every indication that it wanted to be my friend. Despite its massive size, the magic of the dream allowed me to lift it from the water. As soon as I did, it was no longer a whale, but my kitten Bisou, in my arms. It still had the whale spirit, however, and did not run around like a kitten, but remained docile in my arms.
I brought it to the house that we were staying in. The dream continued for some time. At one point someone made a remark about the safety of keeping whales out of water too long. I went in search of my whale friend and found the kitten lying down, in the same place I had left her, not looking well. I quickly saturated a towel and laid it on her to moisten her, as one would with a beached whale. But her thick fur prevented the water from penetrating to her skin. I knew I could not keep this animal any longer.
I scooped her up. She was weak and frail and not at all happy to have been plucked from her home and neglected on my stoop. I took her to the dock and I suppose I freed her back to the Ocean. But I remember seeing her sink at first. Then I believe I woke.
