I dreamed that I was carrying a practice baby. It was the shape, weight, size etc... of an infant, but it wasn't a real baby. I had it in a belly sling and was walking around Greenlake.
On the one hand, I really enjoyed the feeling of nurturing that this practice baby brought out in me. I enjoyed paying attention to how its head was positioned and making sure it was comfortable. I enjoyed slowing my life down a little bit to accommodate this new being.
On the other hand, I was consciously telling myself in the dream not to get attached to the feeling since I know in my heart that I don't want children. I took note how many times this pretend person got in my way. I had armloads of groceries that I couldn't carry on my own because of it. Also, when I eventually got on the bus, I dropped a pen and couldn't pick it up because of the baby. A woman picked it up for me and I noted the frustration in the feeling of having someone else have to do something for me that I am perfectly capable doing myself, if not for this dead weight I'm carrying.
