Spectacular Light Show...

I was in my childhood house, with my mom and Daniel and perhaps a few others. The sun was going down and daylight was nearly gone and as I stared out at the Cascade mountain range, I realized that the recent warm weather had created an almost frozen waterfall effect on the mountains. They looked like tall, frozen ice floes. I tried to get my mom's attention to show her, but by the time she came to the window to look, night had fallen and a different spectacle unfolded over the mountains.
The sky was very dark and without warning, a lightning storm erupted over the mountain peaks. It was unlike any lightning storm I've ever seen. The lightning sparkled and danced in the sky, lighting up the clouds and the land below. Awed, we stayed by the window, eyes glued to the horizon.
Then another eruption of bolts danced through the sky, but this time it rippled through the clouds, and right over our heads with lightning speed (pardon the pun). I was waiting for the thunder and sure enough, as soon as the lightning passed over head, I was hit with the loudest crack my ears had ever heard. The whole house rattled and we feared the windows would burst.
This eruption continued a few more times and each time, as the storm ripped through the sky, over my house, the thunder was big enough to bring down mountains. We heard a pop and the sound of breaking pottery and sure enough, when we looked down, there were several large planters on the driveway that had shattered from the thunder.
We were disappointed, but the show was too good to care, plus there was nothing we could do about it. I had a brief thought to report it to FEMA when it was all over, but that thought disappeared with the next massive explosion over head.
Dan was in the living room, putting on his shoes. He said he really wanted to go outside. I started yelling at him. "Don't you dare! Goddamn it, stop!" But he wasn't listening to me. I screamed and yelled, but he paid no mind, not wanting to be told what to do. Finally, as he was heading out the door into the storm, I yelled, "Lightning is dangerous!" This seemed to catch him. It wasn't that I was trying to tell him what to do, it's that I care about him and didn't want to see him get hurt. He understood that and backed into the house.
