Was in a grocery store, shopping with mom. She kept picking out the worst things - yucky brands of already nasty products. I had to sway her from making poor choices. I don't think she liked it very much that I was telling her what to do.
I had to use the bathroom, which was out back of the store. When I returned to find mom, she was hanging out with all the crack-heads in the alleyway, smoking cigarettes. That too, I did not approve of and scolded her for it. I felt betrayed that I had to inform my own mother of how her habits were no good.
Later, we were driving home. Mom, her sister Barbara and Grandma were all in the car with us. My uncle Craig had called to say that he had V.I.P tickets to a show and wanted me to come down so I could go with him. It sounded exciting, so I accepted. Everyone decided that I would just ride down with Grandma when she returned home. But they all warned me that I needed to keep her awake on the drive. This made me really nervous. She's very old and can't see and I knew she wouldn't be a good driver to begin with, but then I had the added task of keeping her awake for three hours? I decided that I would rather pay for a train ticket. I love taking the train and it just seemed safer. We got home and mom and I were frantically trying to look up train tickets, since I would need to get down there a.s.a.p. Then she told me who was going to be playing the show. It was Mighty Mighty Bosstones and some other Rap group I'd never heard of - something a la ICP. I was like Hell No! Sorry Craig, I don't care if you have V.I.P.
I was sleeping (in my dream) when Dad called to tell me he was here, waiting outside. I panicked as I looked around my studio apartment. First of all, I was sleeping on the couch and it was a mess. The whole apartment was filled with crap on every surface. I told him that I was waking up and that he needed to wait a minute. I hung up and laid in bed for a few more minutes, fighting falling back asleep. Finally I got up, but I was a little angry that I knew he would berate me for the state of this place. I decided that I wasn't going to get dressed or try to look nice, or try to clean up. He was just going to have to deal with the consequences of showing up unannounced. Suddenly I had two roommates - two guys - and they were sitting on the only furniture in the place. I let dad in and joined the guys, who were watching t.v. Dad didn't have anywhere to sit and I didn't apologize.
I was in my closet, taking a look at the bridesmaid dress that I just got. But it was different. It was white and lacy and actually kind of cute. I was excited to wear it. Then I realized that wasn't the bridesmaid dress and that the actual dress was in the closet as well, this was the dress I had bought for the reception. That made me happy too because I thought I still needed to get a dress for the reception and here it was.
I have a faint glimmer of the dream I had just before waking, but I'm not sure it will resolve enough for me to write it.
