Making peace with Grandparents...

I made total peace with my grandparents in the dream I woke from just now. What a monumental experience.
I was at their house, late at night. Some friends of mine were there too, relaxing after a hard day's work at the Chaihouse. It was really late and i suddenly became conscious that I had forgotten my grandparents might be trying to sleep in the bedroom, while we were making noise in the rest of the house. More friends showed up. It was the holidays and everyone was out celebrating. For some reason, my grandparent's house had become the designated after-party spot. Suddenly I became nervous about my grandparents and went to check on them. I first walked into grandma's room where a card table had been set up and a group of friends were playing cards, drinking and smoking, and being jolly/rowdy. Lo and behold, there was grandma, laughing right along with a bowl sitting across from her on the table that was apparently hers. I shrugged and thought, "Okay, I never realized this side of her but she looks happy." Her hair was even long, as if she was somehow more youthful. Then I went to check up on grandpa. His door was open and he was lying on his bed chatting and laughing with a few older (40something) guys. There was psychedelic art on the walls and smoking paraphernalia all over the place; big bongs and stuff. I reached out and touched grandpa. Mind you, I've barely hugged the guy in my life. But I touched him with love, caring. He felt like my dad in that moment too. I apologized if the people were keeping him awake - I know it's really late. I put my arm around him and rested my chin on him. He said not to worry. If he needed to, he could easily sleep. I forgot, he's nearly deaf.
As the party continued, more and more people arrived. I became a sort of overseer, making sure all was well. I turned away some uninvited rabble and when I returned to tell the story, grandpa was sitting in the living room, beer in hand, holding his own in a roomful of youngsters. I felt so proud he was my grandpa and also really pleased that he was accepting my friends and my lifestyle. It was really late and they didn't care. People were drinking, smoking and partying and they didn't care. Their house was getting trashed and they didn't care. I was pants-less in my boots and a white thermal with my hair cut in a blond, flaccid mohawk and they still gave me an air of acceptance and love, not to mention finding their own ways to fit into the atmosphere. By the time the next wave of after-party goers arrived - at least 100 carolling, sleigh-belling rollickers, my only concern was whether the plumbing could withstand so many people and a single toilet. Then I woke, realizing toilet dreams mean I have to pee in the waking world.
