The Future is White...

I dreampt that I was watching a movie. Earlier in the dream, I had watched the prequel, but then I woke up for a while and watched the sun rise. When I fell back asleep, I was putting in the movie, which was titled "Cold Souls" even though it wasn't the Paul Giamatti movie.
The premise followed the life of the main character, a 20something girl in Russia. She was thin but strong, and had a head of angel-blond hair, cut short to her jaw-line. Everyone wears all white clothing. The setting was sort of post-apocalyptic, but only in-so-much as the world looked pretty deserted and bleak. In this world, the characters would take turns working shifts in warehouses, then return "home" to a safe-house, where they would sort of jack in to the dream machine thing that would make them smarter as they dreamed. The technology had been invented by the previous generation, and perfected over time. The only problem is that you would be completely vulnerable while you were jacked in, so they built these porcelain and lucite beds that you would lie down in. The beds were located in random, non-descript buildings throughout the warehouse compound. The rooms were filled with stacks of boxes and light filtered in the dirty windows.
In the movie, the young lady returned "home" and prepared to jack into the dream world. She shared her bed with a young man, played by David Spade. He was young and sassy and had shoulder-length black hair. As he awoke, to surrender the bed, he tried for a moment to lure the woman into a sexual encounter. But she brushed it off and switched places with him in the bed.
He went off to work and she jacked in. Once in the dreamworld, she went about business as usual, but the difference was that in the dreamworld, there would be these little scintillating spirits that represented unmanifest ideas and packets of information from the collective unconscious. It was almost like a video game, in that one would simply snatch up these wavering spirits, and consume them. Upon doing so, you would gain knowledge that you would integrate into your consciousness. Many times, the more important packets of information would appear as animal totems, and would appear much larger and in harder to reach locations. So there was definitely an element of climbing around and adventuring that went on, despite the rather uninteresting setting of the dream (just another warehouse compound.) Also, knowledge that was really important for a specific individual would appear multiple times, so they could be sure to integrate it.
As the woman traveled along, by way of a boxy van, she encountered a cartoony Amanita mushroom and quickly ate it. The information must have been super-important, because very soon after, a whole field of Amanitas popped up out of the ground on a grassy strip next to one of the tall, dirty buildings.
Upon waking, the woman climbed out of the bed, surrendering it to the lascivious David Spade character once more. Returning to work, she greeted her father (the boss) and went to move some boxes. This is where the dream got hard to follow because I was dreaming in between hitting snooze on my alarm.
One thing I do remember, however, was suddenly being in the movie myself, and using bootleg technology to jack in to the dreamworld. Apparently this is how some people would do it, but it was really dangerous. I literally plugged myself in, using a 1/4" wire jack that I plugged into my forearm. I suppose the image was lifted from having seen a man in Africa shooting up Ibogaine the night before (on the internet, of course) and I drifted out, as if I'd just taken a shot of a heavy sedative. But I didn't get to that awesome dreamworld place. Rather, I was still where I was, just sedated. Finally, the woman came and rescued me, removing the jack and letting me rest for a moment while I got my bearings. She explained to me that this technology was how they used to do it, but it proved to be unpredictable and ineffectual and ultimately many people died from it - mostly children. As she explained this, I saw tubs of severed children's heads, with the jacks plugged right into their skulls.
In the dream, I had to go to bed and had to stop watching the movie.
