I am amongst a large group of people standing out in a meadow. There are some buildings in the distance. There are about five people who seem to be hosting this gathering. They speak to us about things we must go out and find. We disperse and are on a scavenger hunt of sorts. I don't seem to remember what they asked us to find. I walk along, on a mountain side. I see a glowing white object in the distance. Walking closer, I realize it is a pile of bones. A few others from the group, including a young boy around 7 years old, gather around the bones with me. We are all shocked to find that they are human bones. A full skeleton... very old. The skull is special. It has a very peculiar shape to it.... Very broad jaw line, and bulbous bone growths coming off the crown. We decide to take it back to the group. As we all gather again. Everyone's attention is focused on the skull. The mood now feels like some ancient form of magic is the guiding energy. The hosts of the gathering instruct that a few of us are to put the skull in our mouths. It seems impossible, the skull is full size.... How are we going to fit this in our mouths? The young boy goes first, he opens his mouth and his jaw seems to unhinge. He is able to fit the skull in his unhinged mouth with ease. I look into the boys eyes and we merge for a moment. I have dreamed with him before. He stands in front of me with his mouth wide open. I peer inside and am carefully studying the skull. Connecting deep with my own skeletal structure as I do. The skull begins to morph and gorgeous mushroom type growths begin to emerge on and around its jaw line. The mushrooms are magic and are made of bone. Something about the alchemy of the boy's mouth and the skull together created the mushrooms. I feel the old civilization where the skull came from speaking to me through witnessing this. I stare in awe. He takes it out of his mouth and says, "See, its easy."
Broadly speaking, it is an emblem of the mortality of man, as in the
literary examples of Hamlet and Faust. However, like the snail’s shell, it is in
truth ‘what survives’ of the living being once its body has been destroyed. It
therefore comes to acquire significance as a receptacle for life and for thought, it
is with this symbolic meaning that it figures in books on alchemy, where it is
represented as the receptacle used in the processes of transmutation (32). A great
many forms of superstition, ritual and—indeed—of cannibalism, are derived
from this idea.

In the symbolism pertaining to the body, the most elementary association is the one between the organ or member and its function. It is, then, selfevident that, in Egyptian hieroglyphs, the mouth should stand for the power of
speech and hence for the creative word. In this sense it stands for the pristine
emanation of creative power. Very closely connected with this hieroglyph is
another showing a mouth with a solar disk inside. This disk, primarily standing
for the sun, is connected, but not identical, with the eye. (In hieroglyphs which
are coloured, the eye is wholly blue, while the sign under discussion consists of a
blue mouth with a little red circle inside) (19). Guénon supports this interpretation of the sign (29), pointing to the example of the Mândûkya Upanishad where,
apropos the state of deep sleep, the mouth is said to represent integral consciousness (26). In the Old Testament, the concepts of mouth and fire are frequently
associated; epithets such as ‘devouring’ or ‘consuming’, frequently applied to the
latter, are descriptive of the functions of the former. Hence the fire-breathing
animals of legend. Jung explains these associations by synaesthesia and suggests
that they are connected with Apollo, the sun-god who is depicted with a lyre as
his characteristic attribute. The common link between the symbolisms of sounding, speaking, shining and burning finds a physiological parallel in the phenomenon known as ‘coloured hearing’ whereby some individuals experience sounds
as colours. Furthermore, it is hardly a coincidence that the two main characteristics that set Man apart from all other beings are the power of speech and the use
of fire. Both are, in fact, the product of mana (psychic energy) (31). In consequence, mouth-symbolism, like fire-symbolism, has two aspects: creative (as in
speech) and destructive (devouring). And, of course, the mouth is the point of
convergence between the external and the inner worlds. This explains the frequent
symbol of the ‘monster’s mouth’, with sets of upper and lower teeth that are
expressive of the ‘interlocking’ of the two worlds: heaven and earth or, more
often, hell and earth (50). There are, in mediaeval iconography, abundant examples of the mouths of dragons or large fishes affording access to the inner world
or to the underworld.

1. Practices that aim to use paranormal or spiritual means to influence events for selfish purposes, or for the benefit of all humanity. 2. The art of conjuring. The claimed art of altering things either by supernatural means or through knowledge of occult natural laws unknown to science. It is in contrast to science, in that science does not accept anything not subject to either direct or indirect observation, and subject to logical analysis, whereas practitioners of magic claim it is an inexplicable force beyond logic. Magic has been practised in all cultures, and utilizes ways of understanding, experiencing and influencing the world somewhat akin to those offered by religion, though it is sometimes regarded as more focused on achieving results than religious worship. Magic is often viewed with suspicion by the wider community, and is commonly practised in isolation and secrecy. Modern Western magicians generally state magic's primary purpose to be personal spiritual growth, many seeing magic ritual purely in psychological terms as a powerful means of autosuggestion and of contacting the unconscious mind. Modern perspectives on the theory of magic broadly follow two views, which also correspond closely to ancient views. The first sees magic as a result of a universal sympathy within the universe, where if something is done here a result happens somewhere else. The other view sees magic as a collaboration with spirits who cause the effect.
