I was sitting by an old man’s bedside. We were in a hospital room with sheets and drapes that were white with small blue designs. The man was lying partially upright in his bed, supported by pillows, with an oxygen mask over his mouth. Beyond his bed were curtains and a white window sill. There were small clear tubes affixed to his body. His eyes were watery and gentle, his gray hair thinning, and his softly overweight features were weathered with age. He was a gentle soul, I could feel it.
I had been called over to provide healing and comfort for him by holding his hand. I was expected to send him loving, healing energy through my hands. He was smiling and we were talking. I explained to him that I could only provide healing with my left hand, as my right hand was injured and it wouldn’t be best to send that through him. I was referring to a chemical burn I had sustained in waking life on my right hand. My role was to provide palpable improvement in his health. Sure enough, as I held his hand he grew noticeably younger and healthier. This effect did not seem to draw health out of me, but rather just to inspire it in him.
In another dream that night I spent time on a beautiful sandy beach expanse. I bathed in the outdoor shower and awoke feeling peaceful and refreshed. I awoke with strong feelings of love and companionship towards the old man, and wondered if I had visited someone somewhere in the waking world. If that be the case, I hope the comfort and joy that coursed through me in the dream served him well.

that for the pillar (or a support, or strength) and for the palm (4). In esoteric
doctrine, the position of the hand in relation to the body, and the arrangement of
the fingers, convey certain precise symbolic notions (48). According to the Egyptian system of hieroglyphs, the hand signifies manifestation, action, donating and
husbandry. An eye in association with a hand—as for example in some oriental
mythic beings—symbolize ‘clairvoyant action’ (19). Schneider concedes a major
rôle to the hand ‘because it is the corporeal manifestation of the inner state of the
human being’ and because ‘it expresses an attitude of mind in terms other than the
acoustic’—or, in other words, a gesture. It follows, then, that the raised hand is
the symbol of the voice and of song; the hand placed on the breast indicates the
attitude of the sage; placed on the neck it denotes sacrifice; two hands joined
