The Secret Room

This is a short visionary peace rewritten from dream journeys. Read slow
imagine.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The golden ones whisper softly, “You must find the secret room.” My heart beats wildly as I run through the thick wet jungle following the sounds of rushing water. I stumble over an old mossy stump. The rotten heartwood reveals a jaguar tooth. Etched into one side are the words LO’ Katek LO’ Axchte. The tooth lands softly within the pocket of my tunic.
My pace slows as I ponder the tooth. “Try to remember.” I hear them say. I see a large black opening in a pile of rotten leaves. I think it could be a portal. I walk slowly now, looking closer. Thousands of black holes stretch across the jungle floor, hidden at the bases of the trees by fallen leaves. Fear creeps up my spine as I remember the tribe of Soleeter. They wait for the Innocents to fall into their subterranean chaos. Holding the pure souls captive, they slowly suck away the life force, ensuring long term survival for the tribe. I hear the water rushing again, so I run.
Falling….I find myself in a creek, staring upon the surface, at my dark reflection. A faceless being of pure light stands silently above me. I am pulled to my feet and we walk side by side into the black.

I awake and find myself in a tall narrow cave of giant, clear crystals. Thick liquid drips delicately and rhythmically from the ceiling of the cave, collecting in several small lagoons. Aqua light radiates from my stomach as I lie in a shallow pool of salty warm water. Waiting alligators encircle my body. I have arrived. They tell me that before I can get to the secret room I need to swim out of the cave and into the river. I am desperate to continue my journey. The water tells me to run. The crocodile tells me to swim, and the light beings take me into the darkness, and tell me nothing. These distractions worry me. Urgency boils within my veins. Peace takes me into her arms as memories of this land flood my mind.
I swim out of the cave to slide onto the back of the elder crocodile. Swiftly and silently we glide through the dark green water. The sun shines through a clear blue sky. Everything here vibrates with wild intensity and ancient mystery. This river is my oldest memory, my ancestral home of water and earth. Rising from both sides massive cliffs tell me to soar. Matter dissolves with only a thought. Floating slowly upward, blissfully I melt with the air and rise to the heights. I look down into the infinite depths and descend towards the river. Throwing my wings out I savor the sensation of flying and falling at the same time. The river takes me into her song, as she always does.

Flying over the turbulent hungry waters, I see stone ruins I have never seen before. I fly in between their guarding arches and into the center of the temple. Brilliant red and yellow macaws sway and laugh as I fly in. They’ve never seen such an odd looking bird. I land softly and pay them no mind. I sit in the center of the open cathedral. I speak quietly to the golden ones, asking for guidance.
A great pounding sound reverberates between my ears. Two black jaguars with clear green eyes rush towards me at full speed. I stand and quietly speak “LO’ Katek LO’Axchte.” Their heavy heads look fiercely into my eyes. Gracefully, they stand before me. I have no fear. The younger jaguar licks my face and squats down allowing me to climb upon her back. Tears roll down my face as we slowly walk out of the ruins. My guardians have come. A feeling of safety envelopes my being. It is time. We follow the river down to the sea.

Upon touching the first grain of sand, the jaguars transform into magnificent, pure white tigers. Proudly, they saunter upon the sparkling copper sand. Their long tails, trail upon the dry beach. Footprints from their guardians follow close behind. Amethyst clouds streak across the open sky. The sea is calm and perfectly clear with the lowest tide in 10,000 years. Seven massive rock spires shoot up from the ocean floor. Dancing into a circle, they enclose a crater of seawater. For billions of years, the ocean waves have pummeled through the rocks, creating caves within and devouring the land beneath. The secret room is only accessible with a low tide of this magnitude. It is here within this crater where all souls depart from Somnatferati.
At the waters edge, I slide off of Lo’Katek’s back. I thank the tigers, as well as the guardians, for showing me the way. I walk out into the shallows of the sea. A golden hawk soars above, showing me an entrance into the rock fortress. The hawk flies closer, dropping golden feathers onto the sand. Touching sand, the feathers dissolve, spreading golden rays across the water. I follow an illuminated path through the interior of the caves into the crater.
The sun shines powerfully within the secret room. I can no longer see or hear the ocean. Black rock walls surround the interior of the crater. I sit alone, on white sand, looking down at my hands, watching them slowly disappear. The hawk flies in and perches in front of me. A shiny yellow beak pierces into my heart, pulling a light purple orb from my chest. I watch as it slowly rises into the sky and dissolves. I look down, only seeing the rocks and sand. And now, it’s quiet, still, and black. The world of Somnatferati has vanished. I am home.
