meandering, horse etc.

I walked into some office buildings where people were working. I thought I wanted a sandwich, even though I was already eating one. My sandwich was unsatisfying, with almost nothing inside the bread.

It was early in the morning, so I had to wait some time for the workers to put the sandwich together. It cost ten dollars, and seemed overly expensive.

I met a young man with dark hair. He seemed semi familiar. I thought he was irritating at first, but then I started to enjoy his company, as he was following me around, and trying to get my attention.

I went into another store, wanting to buy some clothes. There was very dim lighting, as the lights were burning out. This irritated me, and I decided to come back at another time.

While walking out, my friend stole something and gave it to me. It was a colorful, round tin box. I don't know what was in it. I accepted the gift, even though I wasn't thrilled about him stealing it from the store. Then he asked me if I would go home with him, and I said “No”, gently rejecting him.

In another scene, I was walking around a rural country with farms and ranches. There was a crowded outdoor market. Some people were renting or lending out their horses for the day. I wanted to try horseback riding, so I borrowed a beautiful white horse, and rode around for awhile. This part is vague. Later on, as it started to get darker out, I forgot where I got the horse, so I didn't know where to return him.

A woman approached me in a very abrupt way that startled me, and asked “Are you unemployed in the middle of the desert?”

Honestly, yes. But I did not answer the question. It reminds me of when I walk through the mall and sales people jump out at me and ask an unsettling question, like “Do you need moisturizer for your dry skin??” or “Do you need to update your old, outdated cell phone???” etc.

I said “I'm looking for the owner of this horse.”

She hastily replied “It's mine. I'll take it.”

“Are you sure? He might belong to someone else.”

“I'll take it anyway.”

I reluctantly handed over the reigns. The horse had been affectionately leaning his head on my shoulder, but then he went along with the other lady. I knew this wasn't right, but I figured I might never find the real owner, and I might just be aimlessly wandering around searching forever.

It was getting continuously darker, into the evening. The last scene was creepy, as I was walking past some old houses, I kept seeing some ghostly people hovering around or sitting in rocking chairs. They were pale, dressed in white rags, obviously ghosts. They were calmly chanting a phrase that was like a creepy nursery rhyme- “The ghost is in the barn. The rooster's in the hen.”

There were a few different variations of this, - “The ghost is in the hen. The roots are in the farm.”, or the goat is in the barn, etc..

I don't know where that came from. It got stuck in my head as I was waking up.

The feeling I had about giving the horse to the wrong person, kind of reminds me of a real life situation where I had to give a cat away, back to his rightful owner. I had been taking care of the cat for the last few years, and his owner wanted him back, so I had a sad, conflicted feeling about that. The white horse sort of reminds me of the cat, in his mannerisms. The young man who was following me around in the dream also sort of reminds me of the cat, but that's just what's on my mind lately. I miss him :(
