Orisons' rising horizon.

On a dark wooden chair In a cafe with huge open windows a man sits at dusk, praying in whispers. It is late autumn by the color of the trees. This is in the midwest, in Wisconsin on the coast of Lake Michigan, yet the air is as warm as a summer's. The man is surrounded by friends, by family, acquaintences and spectators. They are leaning forward to listen. Gesturing to each other in silence or whispering. Some have their eyes closed.

The man who is praying has his eyes shut, his words are hypnotic, I understand they are a hodgepodge of poetry, Hindu mantra, biblical scripture and lyrics; he speaks faster, the entire cafe is silent now but for a rapid out pour, the people nod to the accelerating rhythm - this goes on until his words are indecipherable, his eyes roll back and the words become a buzzing tone waving in pitch like a flag in slow wind.

When this happens I start speaking slowly in a sort of counter tone, my voice rising when his drops and dropping when his rises. I say things but I don't know what, for as I am speaking I see another place. There are model houses made from the plastic of milk jugs tied together with the hair of a blond woman.

We both stop.

I ask, "Why must he shuck your tongue?" I am referring to the masculine aspect of reality. He says, "You know."

"But no; just don't..."

He continues to pray. A darkness grows on the flesh surrounding his right eye. The darkest of the skin decays. As he continues to pray the decomposition spreads. The corner of his jawbone emerges, then his lips are gone, his nose disintegrates and his entire jawbone falls into his lap, his tongue flaps madly about and his voice is still buzzing.

His tongue peels from the throat outward, his esophogas follows, his brain falls to his feet. His eyes are still there, never flinching, staring straight into mine. They are all that I can see then.

I wake.

I sense something bent over me, as though whispering into me ear, leave the room. It is the exact moment of dawn.
