A Touch of Gray

A tone of gray shadowed over this entire dream. Glum.

North America had collapsed. South America, wiped away. Italy, Greece, Australia... everything... gone. Russia was taking over rapidly.

My family and I still occupied our home. My father had built a bunker below the bathroom and my family of six hid out, praying that this would all blow over. In the morning, my sister Angela and I crawled out of the bunker and sat atop my parents bed. We live in a small community in a valley, surrounded by mountains in Colorado. My sister and I watched out of the window, and made out Russian troops hiking along the ridge, down into our town.

Soon after, troops surrounded our house and I distinctly remember my mother and father pleading for Angela and I to come out into the bunker, but we insisted on watching out the window. The lifeless looking soldiers passed beneath us and we dared not make eye contact, but one looked up... his gaze met mine. His eyes lacked vitality, and his all gray uniform appeared disheveled upon his thin frame. I could not make out his words, but he shouted out to the officer ahead of him and moments later our house was raided.

My family and I ended up in a community center. The community center was filled with people who, like us, had their homes raided. The Russians kept us here under lock awaiting our inevitable doom. I remember, we were allowed to be outside in the afternoons. I'd watch large planes fly through the overcast sky... dropping bombs... leaving chem trails... destroying our precious Earth.

It was one afternoon when we were let outside, a red convertible came zooming down the road and up onto the sidewalk which were all standing(we were not given the luxury of standing in the grass) almost running over my mother's feet... a lean, tall hippie woman with dark brown dread locks stepped out of the driver side. A man of similar style closed the passenger side door behind him. The Russians were taken back, to their knowledge... they had the entire world locked up in these "community centers"

The woman began to yell... the words aren't as vivid now, but they were in the essence of "We must retaliate" and "We are the only hope." The man chanted words along these lines as well... Their message was clearly heard, and we began to fight back... they hopped into their little red car and sped off down the road.
