I was in a very large building that had a feeling of officialness. There was a door on one side of this large space. This door was very large, double door even. It was very old, drab, intricately carved wood that was hard to even make out due to its age. The door is locked, but I have they key that opens it. It is an old skeleton key. Inside this door is a great big hall with doors on either side. The hallway extends straight out in front of me, but I can't see the end. It is dark and damp. The appearance of this place is very similar to this old haunted mansion house that I used to visit in my dreams. The layout is completely different though. I entered through this door three separate times in my dream last night. The first time I went alone. I waked in a few feet, looked all around into the darkness. Into the vastness. Looking up it must've been 30 feet to the ceiling. Cob webs everywhere, dull brown, but ornate wood rising up. A humid cold. There is a door on the left that I opened up. It is a bedroom-type space, but it's not put together. Mess everywhere. I recall seeing an assortment of 9V and AA batteries strewn about.
I left this area back out to the official place I was at originally. I recall interacting with some people, but I do not know who or what it was we talked about. Then I decided to go back to this old place. As I opened the door, I had a feeling of hesitation and slight fear. I sensed a presence. So I did not immediately walk in, I just opened the door halfway and waited. Then this guy slowly pops his head out from behind the door. We make eye contact and then he comes all the way out. He was a nerdy looking guy, my age probably, wearing a white button-down shirt and round glasses. Dirty-blonde hair with a kind of chili-bowl cut. He was completely harmless so my fearfulness vanished. I don't know what he was doing there, nor did I care at the time. It just was not important. I had this (really weird) idea that I was going to use this guy to scare some people into thinking that this place was haunted. So I lead him back into the dark hall and tell him to just wait over here and make some scary noises when I bring these people back in here with me.
So I go back out and find the people that were with me in this dream. I don't know who they are in real life, and I really don't think I knew them in my dream either. So I bring them into the great hall, then into the bedroom-type space. I'm just trying to act normal I think, showing them this weird place, and the guy with the glasses is out in the hall somewhere, and it sounds like he is searching for something in a junk drawer... and it is just all wrong and not scary or haunted. I kinda roll my eyes at this failure and just wish he would stop even trying to scare these people because it is not going to work.
There is another piece of this dream that I remember, but I don't know where it fits in exactly. I recall having a conversation with someone about how ghosts and hauntings aren't real.
So I find all of this particularly interesting because of this old mansion house I used to dream about. It was haunted and it always had this feeling of presence. It was so vast and dark, dingy with cobwebs just like this great hall. Ornately carved wood rising up to impossibly tall ceilings also. Despite these similarities, the great hall felt so much different than the House. It felt empty, disappointing, definitely not haunted. Now that I write that out, me trying to scare those people into thinking it was haunted makes a little more sense. I think I wanted it to be haunted because it is more exciting. Maybe I wanted it to be like the House because I haven't been there in a while and I don't feel like I got to explore it thoroughly enough.
