The blind and the thus hanged

Morning of March 4, 1993 (but recurring). Thursday.

As strange as this dream was (in its rather simple theme and main idea) it was somewhat precognitive and taught me a lot about human perception (or rather, the lack thereof) - or, a better way to word it - it led me to realizations and real-life scenarios that enabled me to learn a lot more about the way "normal" people think.

I am in a classroom scenario and seem to be only around twelve years of age. The teacher has a Hangman court set up on the blackboard. He seems to be somewhat absentminded, yet very dominating at the same time. It is possibly my math class from ninth grade, but that does not seem right due to my seeming age, plus, the teacher is completely unfamiliar with a balding head and a large white mustache.

The word appears to be "quit". The letters show as "Q, underline, I, T".

No one can guess the word, even though the letter "U" almost always follows "Q", at least in normal English writing. The teacher is annoyed and the game is looked at more closely by the students, it seems. The next guess is "A" for "QAIT", which is not a word. Next comes "B", which is not correct, either, as it makes "QBIT". (On a very strange side note, "QAIT" and "QBIT", and probably just about anything, can be found on Google these days, long after this dream, but I do not consider that precognitive or even unusual.)

"It has to be 'U'," I say, "...as 'U' almost always follows 'Q'. I will say it is the word 'quit'".

He looks at me as if I am a lunatic that had just disrupted his class. Somehow, the court has changed to show "Q, underline, I, underline, T". "It's quiet," I say, feeling embarrassed. I am surprised that "E" was not the first letter called, but I am sure that the underline was not there before.

My dream decays into some sort of vague argument about the game of Hangman and letter selection logic. This actually happened later on, but was not first instigated by me. Still, I was astounded that some people played Hangman in a completely random way relative to letter choices instead of using a viable frequency table and word structure logic. I always select "E" first when playing Hangman. If this was not bad enough (but about ten years later), I had to block a relative on Facebook who was going on and on about things that were wrong regarding various forms of math and probability. Because he was around my age, I honestly had trouble wondering what was going on in his mind. Every single time I posted something that was mathematically correct, he came up with a bizarre argument. This was to such an extreme, he implied that an alien race would not recognize that Earth was inhabited by lifeforms - implying that the (I assume, more intelligent) aliens would think or believe that all the streets, cars, and houses were random chance out of nature and not designed or built.

He also did not understand the way to solve cryptograms and oddly contradicted me on established facts and standard practices in actual cryptography. There were many more bizarre beliefs he tried to dominate my timeline with, so I finally had to block him. I even apologized on my Facebook account for having such a person on my friend's list, because really, he kept going on and on even in otherwise normal communications I was having with other people.

As crazy as it sounds, he also implied that any game of Hangman had the same odds of winning regardless of letter choices. How ridiculous is that? In other words, he was one of those people who actually cannot comprehend that the letter "E" is used more than any other letter on a regular basis and that letters such as "Q", "J", and "Z" are far less likely. In school, I rarely ever lost a game of Hangman (especially with the phrases and titles often used by my friends and classmates). He went on and on, persistently, with his utterly embarrassing ideas, even quoting out of context from his older supposed textbooks. These events opened my mind up a little more on just how shortsighted people can be, and persist on being. I did unblock him a few days later, but never sent another invite.

I think there was some sort of "message" in my dream regarding "quit" and "quiet" plays, but likely ambiguous and lost in time from those days.
