Beautiful Distruction

I am in a city. It is a fairly clean modern setting. I am wandering in and out of buildings, I see familiar faces in some of these buildings. It is night time, and the lights around me are golden white, and beautiful. I think how nice and serene it is. I feel safe walking alone. As I am walking along the streets exploring my surroundings, a large machine drops from the sky and annihilates the building a block from in front of me. Chunks of stones and pieces of glass soar in every direction. The people around me are in panic, covering their heads and running for cover, some grabbing others to huddle together. This robot-machine starts smashing more buildings and then flies back up into the sky. I run into a building on a first floor and remember a room I was in that had food in storage. I did not want to venture too many levels up, for I knew it was dangerous in case the robot came back to destroy this building. I find the room and some other people are in it gather food. I grab a bag and collect some bread, cans, a jar of pickles. I find a bag of what looks like dried fruit and some bottles of water. I explore the building some more and grab a blanket off a random chair. I decide to look outside to see if the robot is back and realize I'm higher up the building than I thought. I look out and see woods to my left and some more to the front of me, yet there are more roads and buildings to the front. I see the in the distance that there is a city further away with smoke rising up, my hyper vision extends even further to an even more distant city. There is just rubble and more smoke, and just some remnants of tall buildings. I see this city as a dark silhouette and in this I see a dinosaur. It's a silhouette of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. He is running through the demolished city doing a "clean up" of whoever was left in the rubble I assume. This, of course, highly disturbs me. For as I look at the middle city I see a robot shoot down from the sky; I know now, the circumstances that are about to take place, and I run, fast.

I run outside and realize the sun is coming up. I see a bicycle near me and by looking around I see that no one is going to be using it. Everyone has taken cover around and inside the buildings.. this is a bad move. I see some people run down into a basement on the side of a building and I go after them. I try and tell them that hiding here may save them from the destruction of the buildings but that they need to come with me and hide in the forest to the left. I tell them I don't think our attackers will go into the forest. I plead with them to come but their fear has taken them to the most basic primal flight response.. to hide.

I gather more things quickly from around me. Paper, matches, random clothes, things that have fallen from the already destroyed buildings. I try and get more people to follow me and only a few do. I get on my loaded bicycle and ride down the partially destroyed road.

I see a into the future: me hiding in the forest with these few people, fairly safe. We wait to build a fire until after the beast makes his way through the city. At first our life is pretty lonely but we realize that we are safe and lucky to have moved to the forest and, while food is scarce, we manage to survive.

Up to a certain point it corresponds to landscape-symbolism in general,
of which it forms one representational aspect, embracing the important symbols
of level and space, that is, height and situation. With the dawning of history there
arose, according to René Guénon, a true, ‘sacred geography’ and the position,
shape, doors and gates, and general disposition of a city with its temples and
acropolis were never arbitrary or fortuitous, or merely utilitarian. In fact, cities
were planned in strict accord with the dictates of a particular doctrine; hence the
city became a symbol of that doctrine and of the society which upheld it (28).
The city walls had magic powers since they were the outward signs of dogma,
which explains and justifies Romulus’s fratricide. Ornamental reliefs on capitals,
lintels, and tympana of the Middle Ages often depict the outlines of a walled city,
although in a way which is more emblematic than symbolic. These ornaments are
a kind of prefiguration of the heavenly Jerusalem. An angel armed with a sword is
sometimes to be seen at the city gate (46). Jung sees the city as a mother-symbol
and as a symbol of the feminine principle in general: that is, he interprets the City
as a woman who shelters her inhabitants as if they were her children; that is why
the two mother-gods Rhea and Cybele—as well as other allegorical figures derived from them—wear a crown after the pattern of a wall. The Old Testament
speaks of cities as women (31).

harbours all kinds of dangers and demons, enemies and diseases (60). This is why forests were among the first places in nature to be dedicated to the cult of the
gods, and why propitiatory offerings were suspended from trees (the tree being,
in this case, the equivalent of a sacrificial stake) (8).
